Women’s Wilderness Surf Retreat, Tofino BC
This surf retreat is based on Brené Brown’s book “Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone“.
Between surfing the waves, listening to the ocean and breathing the salty air, our round-circle conversations will invite you to explore your inner landscape, and anchor into your own wild, brave, loving and authentic heart.
Meet your hosts:
- Rebecca Garland, owner of Elan Performance Inc, world traveller, and margarita-loving surfer-wannabe
- Dena Dixon – business woman and adventurer extraordinaire!
5 days. 6 women.
1 experience of a lifetime.
Day 1 (Wednesday. May 9): Arrival Day!
Meet & Greet with Cocktails and Live Music at the Long Beach Lodge
4-6pm: Join us at Long Beach Lodge Resort in Tofino for meet and greet, live music, and a welcome cocktail.
We’ll enjoy dinner together here and watch the waves roll in, before we head back to our accommodations at Zoe’s North Beach House.
Day 2 (Thursday. May 10)
Surfing and Rainforest Walk
Rise and shine with strong coffee or your choice of a tea, a refreshing walk along the beach and a satisfying breakfast.
Post-breaky we’ll take in our first surf lesson with Surf Sister Surf School followed by a return to Zoe’s for a bountiful lunch.
Post-lunch, we’ll explore Brene Brown’s book: Braving the Wildnerness, and start tapping into what it means to truly belong to one’s self; how it’s different from fitting in; and what that has to do with the empowered, authentic life you’re being called to live.
The afternoon is your time…
Hit the waves again, read, nap, hot tub or join Dena Dixon, for a rainforest meditation walk.
In the evening, enjoy a nourishing dinner, conversation that touches your soul, and maybe even a starlit hot tub.
Day 3 (Fri. May 11):
Surfing, Tacos, Town and a Beach Bonfire
After a hearty breakfast we’ll take in our second surf lesson, followed by lunch at a local favorite hangout: the Tacofino Stand.
Following this, we’ll regroup at Zoe’s for another rich conversation based on Brene Brown’s book. Be prepared to anchor even deeper to your passions, your inner wilderness, and your soul.
In the afternoon, the day is yours once more.
What will call you? How will you spend this free time?
There will be no shortage of options or like-minded women to share them with. Or perhaps, you’ll be called to time on your own, which is also welcome.
In the afternoon, hit the town with Dena! Tofino is a quaint town with much to see.
We’ll reconnect again in the evening for a homemade meal, and a beach bonfire ceremony (weather permitting).
Be prepared to let the fire burn out inner fears and ignite your soul’s roar.
If you’re still not ready for bed, enjoy a hot tub while the waves soothe your bones.
Prefer to retire? No problem, this whole retreat is yours to pick and choose from.
Day 4 (Sat. May 12):
Surfing, Malas and The Wickaninnish Inn
Does your day begin with an early morning walk along the beach? A personal yoga practice? A sleep-in? Or some rare reading or journaling time?
We’ll enjoy another nourishing breakfast, and a day of exploration and discovery.
We don’t have any surf lessons on this day, but you’ll still have your gear!
Spend your morning in the ocean; get a massage; or cozy up inside with a book.
After another hearty lunch and a Braving the Wilderness pow-wow session, I’ll host a mala bead workshop where you’ll create your very own mala bracelet.
In the late afternoon, we invite you to join us for a cocktail and appy at the famous and most popular storm watching hotel in the world: The Wickaninnish Inn.
Dinner will be back at Zoe’s with more heart-to-hearts, laughter, and fun times.
Day 5 (Sun May 13): Departure Day!
Sunrise Ceremony on the Beach
Rise and shine to our final day. We’ll wrap up with a ceremony on the beach, breathe in the ocean air, listen to the birds, and dip our mala’s in the surf – aligning them with the wild essence of the ocean and the memories you wish to keep forever.
This bracelet will serve as a reminder of your experience as well as your true belonging, and anchor you to your beautiful, brave and wild heart, once back home.
We’ll share one last meal together, and then pack up.
Dena and I will be hitting the road at 10:30am for the Comox airport, should anyone wish to jump in with us.
(NOTE: All meals are included except Day 1 dinner at Long Beach Resort, Day 3 lunch at Tacofino stand, and Day 4 cocktail/appys at The Wickaninnish Inn.)
